Abstract
The purpose of this lab is to show how the body works together in order to function as one. What this means is that to create a system that functions together the different parts have to do their own part. For example the lungs take the air and put it in the bloodstream, from their the heart pumps the blood to the muscles. Once the muscles use the air they give their emissions back to the blood which then goes out of you. Air and oxygen are needed to make the muscles work. If their is not enough they will not function. When you need to move faster then the amount of sugar you have. Your body will split the sugars into two. The only problem is that you will pay for it after. Whats left behind is lactic acid, when it stays in your muscles they get sore and hard to move.
When doing the expirement we started with a very mild activity which was laying down doing minimal movement. The results were low because the body didn't have to work hard. When doing the medium activity the person had to walk for five minutes. The pulse and heart beat had gone up because the person had to pump more blood to the legs because they were moving. The hardest was the best because all the reading were high lots of sweat and respiration and the temperature was really high because the person had to run for five minutes. the hard activity was the most costly one because it took the most energy.
This expirement is simple all you need is a couple of thermometers, blood pressure gauge and a watch. Learning how the body works is very interesting because you are learning about yourself.

Introduction
"Metabolism is the set of chemical reactions that occur in living organisms in order to maintain
life. These processes allow organisms to grow and reproduce, maintain their structures, and
respond to their environments.
Measure basic body metabolic parameters:
— pulse,
– respiration rate,
– blood pressure,
– temperature and sweat
The objective of this lab measures body metabolic mechanisms in response to different
levels of exercise: pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, temperature (internal and
external) and sweat."

Introduction: Procedures
The three main activities were:
-The volunteer laying down at rest for ten minutes
-The volunteer doing a light activity for five minutes
-The volunteer doing an intense activity for five minutes
After each activity the metabolic rates were measured as quickly as possible using: oral
thermometer, ordinary thermometer, (blood pressure gauge), piece
of tissue (for sweat), stethoscope.
The oral thermometer was disinfected before each use

Hypothesis
For this experiment I think that the hypothesis is that the rates such as blood pressure, respiration etc, will increase as the activity gets harder to do. The reason for this is that as we use our muscles faster and more then we would normally do as we do when we are watching TV or walking around. So as the muscles are moving much faster they need more oxygen and supplements then when if our muscles were to be at rest. So the brain senses that the muscles need more oxygen in order to move faster. So you breathe faster and pump blood much faster so that your muscles can contract and extend more. If you did not have enough oxygen going to your muscle you would get cramps and spasms.

Discussion
When you are being physical, your body works harder then it normally would. So being so your body needs more nutriments in order to keep going. Such as some minerals (Sodium is one of them) are sweated out along with some water. To replenish these nutriments you need to consume what you have lost. Gatorade is basically what is in your sweat. Those Waste products are things that are needed to run the body, if you run out of them your body will stop functioning.
When you are active your pulse is much faster because your heart has to pomp blood much faster to the muscles and organs so that they can work faster and harder. When doing physical activity, the heart has to pump blood much faster so that it can bring oxygen to the muscles, and eliminate waste products such as CO2. Exercise lowers the amount of oxygen in the body, and the amount of lactic acids and waste products increase, because the heart pumps faster so that the cells get the necessary amount they need to work.
Every single cell that the muscles contain need more oxygen when working harder. That is not the only substance that the cells need. Glucose gives the cells energy to work. This whole process is called cellular respiration.
When the results of the whole class was put on the blackboard i noticed that there was a flaw in some peoples measurements. Such as the results depended on how hard the person was working when they were doing the test. And also if the person was fit or not. The lower the pulse was when they were doing the moderate test the the better fit they were. So the results could have been different because of that. Also when we took the blood pressure we noticed that if you didn't have the sleeve on the right place it would give a wrong result.
Overall the test went smooth as long as you had all the tools. The body needs exercise in order to stay healthy and keep you strong.
